You get one, and You get one!
The NFL PR team that could has saved up the bad news for this pre-long weekend afternoon. With most people already grilling up a hamburger we weren’t supposed to notice the news.
However, I noticed and now you know too.
Here are the four players suspended for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The Chargers tight end Antonio Gates was suspended for 4 games. He will continue to participate in training camp as well as in preseason. Gates is eligible to return in Week 5. Gates said that he never knowingly digested a performance enhancing drug and that it must have been present in a holistic medicine he was taking. Last season Gates made a total of 69 catches for 821 yards and 12 touchdowns. Considering that Gates is 34 this may now raise some questions.
The Packers’ Dantone Jones was also suspended for PED use. The former number 1 pick b the Packers in the 2013 draft will miss one game. The defensive end hasn’t had a stand out season just yet and is going to have to wait a little longer to prove he can.
The third suspension was Sheldon Richardson of the Jets. He faces a four game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. It has been rumoured that Richardson was suspended for marijuana. Another player choosing weed over football.
The final suspension was issued for Ronaldo McClain of the Cowboys. The linebacker has had a collection of off the field issues despite being a positive on field addition. Now the ‘Boys will start the first 4 games without him. He has had issues with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. No word on what substance McClain was caught on.
