Michael Sam has had a rough time playing football so far.
He became the world’s first openly gay NFL player.
He was drafted by the Rams, was cut, signed by the Cowboys and then cut again. Sam has been working overtime trying to get back on the roster of a team of the NFL. However, there hasn’t been any interest in the league. Faced with that decision he turned his gaze north to the CFL.
The Montreal Alouttes have officially signed Michael Sam today to a two year deal. It is a smart move by Sam. He can work on his skills and hopefully catch the attention of a team in the NFL. Sam is also a good addition for the Allouettes. He showed some real talent in Missouri and even in for the Rams before he was cut. He should be a beneficial player on Montreal’s team.
The Alouettes’ general manager Jim Popp remarked that:
“With the signing of Michael Sam, we have become a better organization today,” Not only have we added an outstanding football player, we have added even a better person that brings dignity, character, and heart to our team.”
Due to the controversy surrounding Sam this signing will bring some attention to the Montreal organization. Just as he was the first openly gay player in the NFL, he comes the first in the CFL as well.
