Well, admittedly not the most exciting team in the NFL -there was some excitement this week. The Browns officially signed veteran quarterback Josh McCown. The ex Bucs QB was rumoured to have been weighing the options of becoming a Buffalo Bill or a Cleveland Brown.
With the Browns he will be taking on a mentoring job. He will have both Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw to shape into elite QBs. This also means that Brian Hoyer is on the outs.
Hoyer received a call Friday letting him know McCown is taking over. Hoyer will become a free agent on March 10th (and maybe a Bill?).
McCown will be making $15 million over three years as a mentor.
He has specifically mentioned that he is looking forward to helping the maligned Manziel. After a tumultuous couple of years of partying Manziel entered rehab this offseason to address his addictions. With McCown as his new NFL Daddy I doubt we will see Johnny boy chugging a 40 aboard a inflated swan any time soon… Still my favourite Party Johnny photo.
Considering that as a starter with the Bucs last season McCown went 1-10 his adoption of Manziel makes sense. There will be no competition here; just some straight up guidance.
