Being Mr. Mom and envisioning my soon-to-be four-year-old son “bulging the back of the old onion bag” on the soccer pitch.
Favourite sports moment?
1979 Pirates World Series winners – “We Are Family”; 82/83 76ers when Dr. J got his title; the Azzurri winning the World Cup in 1982 and 2006; Chelsea FC winning its first English title in 50 years (2004/05); CFC, strapped on Didier Drogba’s back, winning the 2012 Champions League; any medal from a Canadian, those hockey golds from the girls and boys being especially meaningful. I also attended games 3 and 4 of the 2006 Stanley Cup in Edmonton. That was the most surreal live event I have ever experienced.
Too many to think of but despite not seeing him play, the hell Jackie Robinson had to go through makes him special. I also like that he got his start in Montreal and respected Canadians.
I’m named after Dave Keon so yeah, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Of course I was born the year after they last won the Cup, which apparently makes me the hex. Chelsea FC, Juventus FC and again, any team with Canada emblazoned on the chest.
Do you like long walks on the beach?
I’m from Hamilton, so no. I don’t dig debris/needles/condoms.
Jordan or LeBron?
Years ago, this would’ve easily been Mike. But he’s an ass. LeBron might not be his equal but he’s grown on me.
Gretzky or Orr or Crosby?
Gretz. Cause I like feathered hair and cherry pickers.
P.Manning or Brady?
Tommy. More SB rings and Gisele. Nuff said.
Ruth or Mays?
The Babe. Homers, hot dogs and whores.
You would sell your __ for Super bowl/World Cup/ Stanley Cup/ NBA Championship/ World Series.
My soccer jersey collection…maybe.
Why are you a Model Sports Fan? (as in devoted/crazy ass sports fan)
The genetics of my cute but short Italian immigrant parents failed me in terms of an athletic career. I had to root on others instead.
